Hardwood floor refinishing

Hardwood floor refinishing is a process that involves restoring the natural beauty and shine of hardwood floors by removing the top layer of the wood and applying a new finish. The process can be broken down into the following steps

Following the completion of the cleaning stage, the sanding process is initiated. This process involves utilizing a floor sander furnished with coarse grit sandpaper to eradicate the old finish, scratches, dents, or any surface imperfections. After the completion of the initial coarse sanding, the entire floor is then subjected to a secondary sanding process, utilizing finer grit sandpaper to eliminate any residual marks.

Upon the conclusion of the sanding process, an optional step of applying a stain to the hardwood floor may be taken. Notably, many homeowners opt to maintain the natural appearance of their hardwood floors. However, if the preference is to apply a stain, a layer of the selected stain is carefully administered on the floor surface and allowed to dry in adherence to the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Following the staining process, the hardwood floor is shielded against wear and tear through the application of a polyurethane coating. This coating is applied in multiple layers, with each layer being permitted to dry completely before the subsequent layer is applied. The number of coatings administered is dependent on the desired finish and the recommendations put forth by the manufacturer.

Buffing and screening

After the final coat of polyurethane has been applied and allowed to dry, the floor is buffed and screened to smooth out any imperfections and remove any excess coating. This process helps to create a smooth and even finish.

Final Coat

After buffing and screening, a final coat of polyurethane is applied to the floor, ensuring complete coverage of the entire surface. This coat is left to dry completely before the room can be used again.

Overall, the hardwood floor refinishing process can take several days to complete, depending on the size of the room and the condition of the floor. It requires careful attention to detail and the use of specialized tools and materials to achieve a high-quality finish that will last for years to come.
